Lavender
Hill Farm is the oldest lavender farm on
Vashon. Established ten years ago by Gary
and Theo Christman, new owners Catherine
MacNeal and Tom Dalzell have carried on the
tradition of providing U-Cut Lavender daily
during the lavender season. The lower gate
is open 10-4 daily from early July until
mid-August. You’ll find clippers, rubber
bands, ribbon and how-to instructions at the
self-serve table under the umbrella.
Frequently, Cathy, Tom, one of their
children or houseguests will be harvesting
and can answer questions.
Lavender Hill Farm sits on the Burton hill,
on the site of the original Vashon College,
with beautiful views of Quartermaster Harbor
and Mt. Rainier. This charming garden
contains 2000 lavender plants. The lower
sloping field is a mass of Provence, Grosso
and Silverleaf varieties, evoking the feel
of the French countryside. Twickle Purple
rings the lower beds. |
